Feelings/mood- Light and contrast make such a difference in mood. I never realized how much shadows play into mood. Take my daughter (above) - her playful mood is accentuated with her smile. Her boyfriend (left) is a little more shy, but the camera loved him. Either way, the lighting seemed to accentuate the mood.
Subject placement- I had a very difficult time finding the right placement to capture both the natural light as well as the shadow it provides. The parameters of this assignment were wonderful, as it allowed me to focus on the important part - placement and light.
Multi-layered - Not applicable here. Unless you count light and shadows as layers - it definitely adds layers of mystery.
Depth of field- Focus, focus, focus. Easy with just one subject and nothing in the background.
Light- What a difference light makes!!!! The photo at left was the last photo I took after five previous sessions of failing to get the right light. I was eating dinner, and looked up at the light coming through the window and suddenly an idea occurred to me. I began hanging my white canvas over my kitchen counter where (my kids thought I was a little off my rocker), and then sat on my table to photograph. I felt jubilant to finally have captured what I had been missing before.
Improvement- I know I have TONS of improvement in the area of connecting with the subject and getting them to let themselves out into the camera. I also have need lots of practice with lighting...this exercise told me so loud and clear!
